"The iPhone vision of the mobile Internet’s future omits controversy, sex, and freedom, but includes strict limits on who can know what and who can say what. It’s a sterile Disney-fied walled garden surrounded by sharp-toothed lawyers. The people who create the apps serve at the landlord’s pleasure and fear his anger.
I hate it.
I hate it even though the iPhone hardware and software are great, because freedom’s not just another word for anything, nor is it an optional ingredient…"

Web guru Tim Bray takes Google Android job | Deep Tech - CNET News

This is fascinating. The war between Apple and Google is going the Microsoft vs. Linux way. In fact, you really cannot say who’s who.

At one end, the open nature of Android is like Microsoft Windows with multiple hardware and Apple continuing to have a close and closed tie between the hardware and software.

On the other end, you have Apple copying Redmond moves and unleashing a tirade of lawyers and acting like how Microsoft did when it suddenly realized that it missed the Internet train. Let’s close the system and let Internet Explorer take over.

At the same time, Steve Jobs feels that like Bill Gates copied Windows from the Macintosh, Eric Schmidt used his position in the Apple BoD to better Android and then try and kill iPhone? =/

Paranoia is certainly a trait that we are used to with His Jobsness…

But as an ardent Apple and Google fan, I am fascinated with what is happening. I only hope that it doesn’t turn incendiary and remains for the benefit of technology. =)
