How many software professionals are proud to be in their job? How many of them wake up everyday in the morning and say, “Today’s an awesome day because I get to go to work and do awesome things with code and writing amazing test cases.” How many IT professionals consider their job as awesome?
Their answers would determine the fate of the Indian IT industry. If people are in it for the money, the industry is not going to last. And honestly, if people are in it only for the money, they are going to jump the minute India opens up its infrastructure business for rampant growth, or when we need tons more services for a rapidly growing and developing country.
The industry needs to rethink its hiring and retention strategy - revamp it even to ensure that we have people who enjoy getting things done. We need geeks to enjoy their development. We need nerds who get nerdgasms achieving objectives and we need managers who are passionate about the IT product.
