The greatest films of all time - Roger Ebert's Journal

A MacBook Air may not have nearly the pixel count of an iPad 3, the battery will not last half as long, and there is no LTE. But what it lacks in hardware it makes up software that does far more and does it far more efficiently and the ability to multitask with grace and ease.

I don’t think this situation is permanent. For now, though, the iPad remains a very nice web browser, book reader, and doodle pad. That is, when I can pry it away from other family members, who think it’s a great portable Wii.

Incredible Crepuscular Rays - Sunbeams Caught on Camera

Sunbeams are everywhere – yet when they are caught on camera they are often unwanted additions to a photograph. They cut swathes through the picture, chopping off heads and obscuring detail in a burst of light. However, when they are…

Chairman Gruber is disappointing me. -

Chairman Gruber is losing his credibility and fast.

His keen sense of smelling out claim chowder and calling out bullshit is now being used only for the good of the Apple PR machine, especially for such a terrible propaganda article.

sigh

I used to love this guy’s writing.

“Sure, you need a solution to the problem. But mostly what you need is a self-funding method to scale your solution, a way of interacting with the market that gains in strength over time so you can start small and get big, solving the problem as you go.” —

The engineering dilemma.

Track 8 is a Metro style music player for your iPad (hands-on)
By Sam Byford, theverge.com
Apple’s new iPad has been the subject of some pretty effusive praise, but the skeuomorphic design of apps like the music player isn’t for everyone. On the other hand, while a lot of people love Microsoft’s Metro style overhaul seen in…

Yet another example of Metro’s design ethos portability to iOS, apart from the Xbox live app that is.

Tragic. The analysis is still fascinating. There’s a lot to learn for design and here is a place where it would be super useful!

Google Engineer Told Others of Data Collection, F.C.C. Report Reveals - NYTimes.com -

Google is getting some major flak of late regarding user privacy. While there is a general sentiment (which I agree with) that Google should start considering this data with utmost care. People around the world trusted Google and it’s “Don’t be evil” mantra when we gladly shared this information with them. Google should not abuse it. No, it should go one step above and make sure that it continues to let people know that it takes good care of my life’s material in its servers.

That said, I don’t agree with another propaganda that seems to be conflated within this tirade against Google. It is essentially trying hard to discredit Google and support other fruity companies in the process. It is as if Steve Jobs’s ghost is rallying writers against its friend turned competition.

At any rate, all I can say is be mindful of your data. You should NEVER trust anyone with your sensitive information other than yourself. Yet, in this cloud connected world, you’ve to make a call as to where your email, contacts, and other important data resides. I, for one, will not remove my GMail account, yet. However, if you do, make sure where you move to is under your full control too. :)
