Erin McKean on redefining the dictionary. Must watch. And she’s an amazing presenter. Love makes things real. If you love a word, use it. That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction.

“Steve Jobs’ vision for Apple, repeated in yesterday’s keynote address, posits...”
– Subtraction.com: Better Screen, Same Typography Khoi Vinh blames Apple for not bringing better typographic controls to iPhone4. His example certainly does prove a point. The typeset looks terrible on the book.

Invest in companies you hate - Scott Adams on WSJ →
My point is that I hate Apple. I hate that I irrationally crave their products, I hate their emotional control over my entire family, I hate the time I waste trying to make iTunes work, I hate how they manipulate my desires, I hate their closed systems, I hate Steve Jobs’s black turtlenecks, and I hate that they call their store employees Geniuses which, as far as I can tell, is actually...

iPhone Development: The Illusion of Open →
Unless Google resumes direct sales or puts licensing limitations on the carriers to prevent them from locking down Android phones, “open” will be just another empty marketing slogan. And I suspect that’s what it will be. Google doesn’t really care about the user experience, they just want to keep making money on their proprietary, non-open advertising in the mobile space...

What if...
your phone would automatically switch between the various chips - 3g/4g etc based on usage and battery life. When Apple has gone ahead and decided to take control of your graphics chipset in your laptop, why can’t it intelligently do the same for your phone? I don’t need a 3g connection active for all calls and only for fast browsing… This might be the next step to improving...

Feeding your vegetarian friends at a cookout
squashed: The weather is warming up—which means it’s time to fire up the grill and invite friends over for burgers, brats, and a celebration of our victory over the edible mammals. But … what do you feed your weird vegetarian friend? This question seems to genuinely concern a lot of people. Since many people organize meals around a meat dish, it becomes baffling to plan a meal without meat. But...
